HKC has closely monitored, kept our membership informed, and used our social media outlets to encourage participation in the KC Spirit Playbook planning process. An HKC board representative serves on the steering committee. HKC has advocated for a demolition review ordinance, city economic development incentive policies to ensure the retention of restoration tax incentives, the value of preservation over new construction, to encourage the reuse of historic buildings over new development as a means of protecting the environment and increasing affordable housing, to provide equity for older neighborhoods by developing innovative tools for residents to have proactive input into the character and scale of development, the importance of following adopted plans, and to update the city’s comprehensive historic
resources survey plan.
