Historic Preservation Ordinance Updates

Location: 414 E. 12th St. Kansas City, MO

Stakeholders: HIstoric Kansas City, Historic Preseration Commission

Historic Kansas City worked with the Historic Preservation Commission, city staff and Councilman Scott Wagner to update the Historic Preservation Ordinance to protect properties that are threatened with demolition while designation is sought. According to the new wording of the ordinance, once an application has been filed, no building permit for alteration, construction or demolition of a property being considered for designation may be issued until the City has dismissed or denied the application, or for a period not longer than 6 months. This change to the ordinance allows for critical community input through the public hearing process to ensure that important historic resources are not lost.
