Urban Explorers Tour: Scarritt Building
Event Sponsors: Historic Kansas City, Scarritt Properties
Don’t miss the opportunity to tour and explore one of Kansas City’s first and finest skyscrapers, the Scarritt Building, designed by Root and Siemens and built in 1908. The impressive landmark was built by the Scarritt Estate Company, formed in 1903 of the children of the prominent early-day Kansas Citian Nathan Scarritt, who arrived here in 1848 as a teacher and preacher. The three entrances to the building were on Grand Blvd, 9th St. and on Walnut through a four-story arcade adjoining the building on the west. In its later years over half of the office building was occupied by the Kansas City Gas Company. The building features impressive architectural and ornamental details of terra cotta, marble, wood and stone.
Meet at the main entrance at 818 Grand Boulevard.
$10 per person.
