The building was constructed by the Kansas City Power and Light Company in 1931 and was designed by the architecture firm of Hoit, Price and Barnes. In addition to the elaborate and stunning Art Deco details throughout the interior and exterior of the building, the structure is crowned by an ornate lantern featuring prismatic glass panels concealing red-orange lights that glow each evening at sunset.
