Before and After Modern Masters House Tour
1957 Better Homes & Gardens Idea Home by Architect William Wurster
KCmodern and Historic Kansas City are excited to be offering a new Modern Masters tour series with exclusive access for members of KCmodern and Historic Kansas City. The kick-off event will be a before and after tour of an important Mid-century Modern home in its original unaltered state and then again after the renovation, which includes a master suite addition sympathetic to the original design. Architect and KCmodern board member Chris Fein will give a brief explanation of the project that he designed. Drawings and Photos will be available of the before and after at both events.
The home is the 1957 Better Homes & Gardens Idea Home of the Year designed by architect William Wurster. BH&G Magazine planned and published Idea Homes every year throughout the 1950’s and beyond. This design and others were built all around the country and new designs were offered every year. There are at least three different designs from the program built in Kansas City from different years. William Wurster also designed Case Study Home #3 for Arts + Architecture magazine. Though he is underappreciated, he was an important California architect who is considered one of the fathers of the Ranch House with his design of the Gregory Farm House in 1928.
