On March 22nd from 5:30 pm – 8:00pm, Historic Kansas City will be hosting our annual Preservation Awards ceremony at the Grand Hall at the Power & Light. This event highlights numerous historic preservation efforts that occurred in the Kansas City area in 2016.
History of the Grand Hall at Power & Light: In 1930, excavation began on what would be the tallest building in Missouri for 50 years. The 36-story skyscraper opened in 1931 as the headquarters of the Kansas City Power & Light Company. The building was designed by the Kansas City architecture firm of Hoit, Price and Barnes. It is recognized as one of the finest examples of art deco architecture in the United States and is a monument to the innovation of its time.
