2020 Year End Gift
Double Your Impact!
Thanks to the generosity of the William T. Kemper Foundation – Commerce Bank, Trustee all Annual Appeal donations up to $25,000 received through January 31st will be matched DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR!
Human health and safety are at the forefront of our minds right now, and we wish the best for you and your family in these unprecedented times. This year, we have all had to find a new normal.
In that, Historic Kansas City has been no exception. While we stayed inside to keep our community safe, Advocacy was not done face to face, but we were able to prevent the demolition of the historic home at 236 W. 54th St. in the Simpson-Yeomans/Country Side Historic District. Our programming became virtual, but we were able to connect our community with our recent Historic Preservation Awards and Annual Members Meeting. Although virtual, we were able to educate during our Historic Preservation Month Series, COVID Summer Series, and FALL Series. And 2020 marks the year of our hands-on approach with the stabilization of the former home of Satchel Paige.
Our generous community of donors enable Historic Kansas City to continue to advocate for Kansas City, so thank you for considering a tax-deductible donation to support our work.
Thanks to the generosity of the William T. Kemper Foundation – Commerce Bank, Trustee all Annual Appeal donations up to $25,000 received through January 31st will be matched DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR! Make any size donation or membership and it will be doubled, giving HKC the funds needed to save the places that matter to Kansas Citians – houses, churches, schools, downtown structures, neighborhood commercial areas, and vintage neighborhoods.
By saving places that matter to Kansas City, we reconnect people to heritage and revitalize communities.
HKC helps you reimagine, rescue, and revive meaningful places. We save places because they stir us. They’re inspiring examples of Kansas City art and spirit, ingenuity, and craft. They heighten our sense of place and connect us through the generations. They help us remember what’s important in our lives. We save places people will use and enjoy today, adapting vintage places rather than throwing them away, to keep connections to the past and to spare the landfills. We believe that, like hard work and hospitality, revitalization is a real Kansas City value. We save places because restored landmarks are economic drivers. They improve property values, promote tourism, and inject vitality into neighborhoods and business districts. They create and support local jobs. Their distinctiveness attracts the workforce of the future. Perhaps most importantly, we save places because they’re the sites that draw us in and hold us fast. They’re the places among which we live, work, explore, and pass on what we’ve learned. Saving places. It’s our passion and our purpose. Through preserving and understanding our past we explore and advance our unity and better grasp our shared heritage.
In the midst of battling COVID-19, we all see great need around us. We recognize that you are most likely lending a hand to many critical efforts. If your circumstances allow, we need your help to continue protecting the places and stories that matter to all of us.
Your support of HKC will help secure our greatest assets: our dedicated staff. While we’ve trimmed our expenses as much as possible, we still need critical support to remain viable and whole. After canceling 5 in-person events this year, we have lost more than $89,595 in revenue. But HKC has not sat still. We have actively secured a loan from the Paycheck Protection Program for $16,900 and raised over $12,000 during the summer on-line appeal. Yet, our financial future remains uncertain.
This is really difficult.
